An idea for you! You can modify this and do "The Twelve Days of Christmas" due to time.
My grandma has been sick lately and Josh's grandma isn't doing very well either. Unfortunately we live far from both of them, but who doesn't enjoy mail? Instead of trying to come up with a gift for them that they'll open just on Christmas, we decided to send them a card every day with a new letter to hang up. Lucky you, you get to see them too:).
Yesterday I chose the pics, printed them at Walgreens (on sale if you have over 75 prints), sorted out all the pics, and then went to town going through my card box. I have waaaaay too many cards and some that I would never use since I usually want to send just one that I like to someone and I seem to have accumulated all sorts of cards that are just a bit random, some from middle school. Anyway, it was so fun to go through and choose 24 different sets of cards (set of three, decided to send to my parents too since my dad will be alone for a while since my mom is helping my grandma)--only one duplicate card since I wanted to use it up.
And my card box is still full miraculously. I need to do this more! Now the trick is figuring out the mail system so they actually receive Dec 4th's card on Dec 4 in the mail. Doubt it will work, but I'll try.
I just realized how fun it would be to show you the cards I'm sending! Okay, maybe more fun for me since these cards have sort of become a part of me, esp those old ones. I've gone through them so many times whenever I want a card.
Q: Do you have any good homemade/sentimental gift ideas? I'm trying to become a bit less commercial in my gifts but lack the creativity to do much--except this Advent Letter idea, I think it's genius:).

I'm giving a lot of homemade baked goods this year. I think the only thing I'm buying are the containers for them to go in. Baking I can do, other handmade things are not my skill. That's such a cute idea for the girls to do!
I may sew a giant potato head "pillow" for my nephew, with velcro pieces meant to look like funny versions of himself and his mommy and daddy. That idea hasn't made it any further than my head though, so we'll see :-)
Great idea, Afton. I love old school mail. As for homemade gifts, I'm not the one to ask. Although I've received some good ones: my sister made me a rice bag, the kind you put in the microwave and put on your cold feet or aching back. it's cute fabric and I use it all the time.
