Hazel is turning 4 this week and has requested a ballet party. I said yes and have been bumping useless thoughts around my head for what we'd do since then. One friend suggested a little game/relay where they have to put on a tutu and maybe a tiara, grab a wand and run to the other end of the yard and then have to do some twirls or something and then run back and have the other person go (with two teams). I love that idea, but that's the only one I have.
Oh wait, and maybe having Josh's cousin who used to do ballet come and teach them a simple routine to perform for us. But I'm looking for any ideas for games or crafts to do. I bought 4 yards of this ballet fabric because it was on sale and hoped it would provoke a dazzling creative thought process, but I have ZERO ideas as to what to do with it. I may also make little tutus to send home with the girls, but that's separate.
Q: What should I do with this fabric?
Q: Any game/craft ideas?
Q: Any decorating ideas?
PLEASE HELP! ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! (It's a week from today)

This might be lame but pin the tutu on the ballerina. I know kids loved that game at Austin's party. Also, decorating cupcakes might be fun. If you google ballerina cupcakes there are lots of cute ideas. I planned a lot for Austin and Sydney's party and forgot to add time just for the kids to run around and play. They were having so much fun they didn't want to stop for the activities that I had planned. So, I think you really only need a few good ideas and I like what you have so far! Oh, and with the fabric you could make simple little party bags with ribbon handles or something like that...
Maybe your relay could include putting on and lacing up ballet slippers. Also, maybe have the girls make their own tutus. They can thread the elastic through a pre-sewn hem in some tulle (you know, like making old school hair scrunchies).
ditto on the little party bags with the fabric. that would be cute! i was going to suggest a ballet video - Celia just got a step-by-step video from the library and she LOVES it! she stands in front of the TV all dressed up and uses a chair for a "barre". but if josh's cousin (allison??) is coming, that would be even BETTER! you could have a few activities where the girls have to "earn" a certain piece of their ballet outfit and by the end they're a "real" ballerina, with a tiara, wand, tutu, scarves etc... then just put on some music and let them dance! i'm excited to see what you do - Celia would ADORE a ballet party! (although this year she keeps talking about an "art/artist" party...we;ll see)
I have two little girls who love PINK! Here are my top 10 party ideas!
1.) You can buy tiara craft sets at any dollar store and they can glue the pieces on themselves. 2.) Make little cutouts of feet and have them dance a routine across the floor. 3.) Buy some tulle or tutu's for them to sit and play with, then take a picture of each child who attends. As long as you have a printer you can use the photo and have them decorate picture frames with ballerina stickers etc. 4.) Have them decorate their own cupcakes 5.) Print off some ballerina coloring pages 6.) Play pass the slipper (hot potato), whoever is holding the slipper when the music stops is out. You can make the slipper out of your material 7.) Decorate jewelry boxes 8.) Musical chairs, dancing or tip toe style 8.) Tell guests to dress up in ballerina gear before they come. Make sure you have extra in case someone doesn't have anything 9.) Have a tea party 10.) Do the following dance for parents when they arrive
Ballerina … Ballerina - Twirl around.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Touch the ground.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Up on your toes.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Strike a pose.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Arabesque.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Take a rest.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Take a bow.
Ballerina … Ballerina - Curtsy now!
Any Dollar store is your friend. Its cheap so you can buy lots of goodies, crafts and decorations. Good luck and have FUN!
You could have a ballet freeze dance. You could turn on ballet music and have the kids freeze when you stop the music. You could leave it at that or take it a step farther and have a prize for the last kid that has successfully stopped and started at appropriate times! Sounds like fun, my girls would LOVE a party like this.
Sounds like you've got your party planned! If you haven't already read it, "Honk! The Story of a Prima Swanerina" by Pamela Duncan Edwards. Is so fun and for just the right age group. If you're in to reading stories, the kids would love this one. :) I also thought the Ballerina Freeze Dance would be a hit!:) Good Luck!:)
So many fun ideas. We like to just put music on really loud, let them all wear tutus and leotards, and dance. Coloring pages with ballet slippers would be fun. Remember, they do not care about how complex or involved the games are. They just want to play. Decorating cookies or cupcakes is fun.
I could make you some tutus or slippers out of fondant when I do mine on Thursday or Friday.
Keep it simple. Just decorate.
Let me know if I can help.
One game we did for Lora's 4th was buy a princess poster and cut it up like a big puzzle and taped the pieces all over the living room for the girls to 'find'. Then they stuck their pieces together on the wall for the finished product. It didn't take long, but was fun. You could do something like that with ballet shoes cut out and hide all over the house for them to find.
We have a ballet video if you want to borrow it.
THank you for all the great ideas! I used some of them, including that cute little rhyming dance--that was perfect! I'll post pics soon, I hope:).
