Here is what my favorite orange wall looked like a few weeks ago. I loved it, it's my take on a modern family picture of sorts. You just couldn't really see Hazel because she was in light pink and Josh was too small. Story follows...

This was my orange wall in it's ugly duckling stage. I convinced Josh that the mantle had
had to go. I had to give the okay that he could mount the tv on a different wall, but still, nixing the mantle, hallelujah.

I took over from here and puttied, sanded, picked colors, etc. I'm proud of my little project if you can't tell.

Primed and modern already.

My little helpers played a part too and loved it. Imagine how great it is to paint a gorgeous strong color on a wall, you get a rush seeing the transformation and it's just plain fun for the kids.

In case you don't know about this, my sister does vinyl silhouettes,
http://vinylsilhouettes.com/, and if you go there, you can see my old orange dining room in Houston on their front page (I had wooden rectangles up when we lived there, not the silverware in case you knew me). And you can see I'm obsessed with orange too and can see my favorite pendant light I hated to say goodbye to as well (and only $50!). I love my new orange wall too though.
I wanted to do a modern family picture of sorts for this wall to fit in with the look and I felt a stroke of brilliance when I thought of this:).
Felicity runs, runs, runs, and she likes to turn things upside down while having fun, so she's running upside down on the top of our little world. Hazel is our blissful dancer and oldest princess, so she's in her happy place in our little world. And me, well I'm partying, with food of course (in true fashion, the cookies I was holding for our silhouette pic were made by Josh:). One of Josh's favorite books is Atlas Shrugged and on the cover the man happens to be holding up the world. There are a couple of pics below.

This is to show you how we got the profile pics, yes, it's really us. I just inflated my skirt for the vinyl one.

I think we may have used a different shot, but you get the idea, we just riled them up over and over.

Atlas.

So here is my updated wall. It's perfect now, I love it!

Now I'm just stumped on where to put our "real" family pictures since we don't have a lot of wall space with all these great windows. When I figure that out, maybe I'll post.
Oh, and I get it if this isn't your style, it's not Josh's, but he's humoring me, but I'll still pretend you love it because I do that with Josh and it makes me happy:).
Q: Do you have a favorite wall in your home?
Q: Do you have a creative family picture? I'd love to see it!

I personally love the wall. But I'm basically opposite of creative, so I could never come up with something like that. And I never knew there was a fireplace behind the shelves. It looks great.
afton, i love this! i think it's perfect! i think it is so creative and exactly what a home should have. something unique and awesome!
This is SO you and so very cool! Well done! In our house we have a curved wall that I have filled with black framed photos. It's my favorite for sure.
I love, love, love it! I'm very into geometric shapes these days. It's so cool and retro, yet modern at the same time.
Awesome idea to include the family silhouettes!
Can I copy you?
I love how bold and "Afton!" this wall is. Gorgeous!
We have a huge vaulted ceiling in our living room--when we moved in, I thought "Gallery!" So I filled the biggest wall up with framed black and whites of our family. I love it. And that reminds me--I need to add more photos, since Isaac is 9 months old and the latest photo additions were Juliet at the same age...
ps--are the shapes vinyl stickers as well? (the circle/square-y things?)
Afton, you cease to amaze me. I love that idea. I'll admit, I'm not a huge orange fan, but I know you are and I love that you don't hide it. Your house here always looked nice.
wow. Afton. I l.o.v.e. this. So awesome. and what great colors!
