For the record, it was actually enjoyable for the main reason that Josh ran with me. It was our Valentines date on the beach:). It was the first time we've run together in any sort of a race and we've run quite a few from 5Ks to our marathon, but never together, so it was really nice and he was incredibly supportive and got me through. I love you Josh!
The night before was a late nighter painting and studying for Josh (he's taking the CA bar exam next week). BTW--do you love our new backsplash or what? I do anyway:).
We were parked ON the beach! I couldn't believe the location of this thing!
After a way too short of night, we arrived at the misty beach. Josh caught me in my moment of decision. I'd just walked on the sand and it hurt my foot so I was just thinking about what to do. Sort of a depressing picture for me to look at actually.
There's my man!
Then we ran...http://raceshots.net/app/event/searchPicture?eventInstanceId=17211&searchType=2&curPage=1&searchWordCaption=411
They also had doughnuts and cookies--another reason races are so fun, you can feel good about eating anything that day.
I love the pathetic picture of me crossing the finish line looking pretty finished. The picture better describes how much of a relief it was than words.
This is Eric Ellsworth. This guys is our friend from church and he ran with an abundance of energy that I wish I could bottle. We were rewarded with free, large, delicious smoothies .afterwards! Too bad it was cold out. Free bbq too! Also too bad I had to toss it since I lost my appetite (or never had it?).
This is me with Kathryn Barney and Lyn Greenwood, also friends from church.

Me and my bushy-haired lover.
Lyn with her very supportive family--it was a long drive!
What a fun group! It was so nice to have friends there. I had another friend, Sabrina, run, but I didn't see her after. Also had a friend run the marathon. My running friend Shelah injured her knees on her 18 mile run right before I did, so she took two weeks off as well and was smarter than me and walk/jogged it with her mom. So fun to do a run with so many friends!
The MEN.
A nice sweaty, humid tent of people. It started totally pouring rain outside after we finished, I'm so glad we were done! Such a nice feeling to be done, eating, and out of the rain. You know that kind of feeling?
Free jellow "embroidered" jackets. Josh loved how they advertized that. I think he pictured flowers and cross-stitching. Actually, "free" isn't the right word. The race cost $60!!!
Me and my bushy-haired lover.
Q: What's the funnest physical challenge you've done?

Autumn told me the back splash looked good, and it does! Congrats again on the run! You even came in first!! That's awesome.
Isn't it fun getting the goodie bag and all the treats at the end? It almost makes the cost of the race sting a little less. :o) There is a 5k race in the neighborhood in Cincinnati where I grew up that is always the Saturday before July 4th.. at the end of the race they have "kegs and eggs".. It sounds cool but I don't drink beer and eggs after a race sound so gross to me.. I struggle just to keep the goo and water down :o)
Congrats on your first couples race!! Yay Afton and Josh!
congratulations, afton! glad your bones are good:) thanks for the running advice btw. my brother will be at the boston, so i'm sure you'll run into him at the small, intimate race with your closest friends. love you, you are beautiful! my feet are hurting myself...not sure if it's tendonitis or what, but yeah. no good. need new shoes pronto! wish i could give you a HUG.
The backsplash is AWESOME! Wanna work on our kitchen? I saw you on both the turnaround and you looked so focused (and fast). I hope you enjoyed that wacky little run--it's really my favorite despite the wind and the fog. Those shirts are HUGE, though! I wish they came in women's sizes!
Did you guys see the riding mate comment? It's a hook up site for people who like horses. Nice huh! The kegs and eggs sound terrible and I don't drink either. Ugh, eggs? I guess protein is good for you but yuck. Sabrina, I was looking for you around the corner, I kept wondering if you got hurt and pulled out since I didn't see you. I'm sorry you had to see my face like that, I know the look, I look kind of freaky when I'm tired and focused. The jackets were huge, we exchanged them thankfully.
