We just got back from a wonderful vacation in Peru--just the two of us (Josh and I that is). I actually just got home last night because I went straight to Ohio to pick up the girls from my parents home where my parents very selflessly watched them for 9 days--and they both work full time and are working on a major addition to their house=also a full time (and stressful) job. Do I have awesome parents or what?
I'll get some pics on here soon, Peru is GORGEOUS. Seriously, it's not just a poor little South American country with it's shining tourist destination of Machu Picchu (excuse my PC incorrectness, it's just the image I happen to have of a lot of SAmerican places). It has so much to offer and it was breathtakingly beautiful.
My mom asked what my favorite part about the trip was, and after thinking about various good times, it all just came down to being with Josh, alone, and for so long. It was so fun to have him full time, you know, no work (mostly) and no kids (although we dearly love them and even missed them), and for so long. It was so nice to get around so quickly and easily without having to think ahead for how long we'll be out and to not have to factor in snacks, diapers, drinks, naps, clothes, travel logistics and car seats...etc. It was so liberating and enjoyable. It reminded me of different interests I had and gave me a lot of time to ponder thoughts about life and society and developing countries and all that stuff that I don't have/make time for when I'm home.
Pics and details to come.
Q: Have you taken a trip sans kids? If you have any that is. If not, hopefully you're taking lots of trips!
Q: What was the best thing about the trip?
Q: Do you spend much time thinking about third world situations or poverty much when you're going day to day? (I don't nearly as much as I did before kids, mostly just due to time and life situation. You know, so much of the day being devoted to just getting things done and not a lot of thinking time.)

Welcome back!
We have never taken a trip without kids. It sounds so lovely though. Maybe we can do it when Billy graduates from med school. :)
I had the blessing of serving a mission in S. America, so what I have done is try to keep some souvenirs out in our home as a reminder of where I've been and what I saw. It is easy to forget with the daily tasks right in front of my face, but they can quickly bring me back and help me recognize my blessings, even though life isn't perfect. :)
Hi Jannie! Nice to meet you, I checked out your blog too. I love quirky people:).
Melanie, great idea on putting out little reminders, I really like that idea. I have some from Uganda around, but Josh wants a little diversification in our ethnic decor, so I'll change it up with a little Peruvian:). Actually, I think pics on the way would be a good way. Ah, to hang things on the wall, I need to do that soon.
we have been on one trip w/o kiddos--almost, because i was prego with dalton. it was liberating to eat and sleep and whatever when we wanted to, and all we did was go find a place to live while preparing to leave school!
