I've been off and on looking for a white duvet cover for a few years. I've finally decided to crack down my search and get one and it seems the market is seriously lacking. Lame-o I say. A simple, white duvet cover, like in all the resort pics, just something simple and plain so I can pretend I'm in an elevated beach hut with the waves splashing below...which I've got covered thanks to Rhett sharing his waves machine with me at night. I think I need it more than he does, I've grown accustomed and can't sleep well without it now.
Anyway, all the "plain" ones I can find have stripes and I don't want stripes. I can't think of any more places to search so I think I'm down to these two unless any of you have another idea to look.
Option 1: Overstock bedding.
Pros--cheap, fluffy looking, doesn't matter if it's wrinkled, looks comfy.
Cons--shortish both in length and width for a king. I really don't want short, I was hoping to have a more billowing spread that looks generous rather than shrinking the bed.
Pros--I like the look, fluffy. 4 inches longer on sides and 2 inches longer in length than above.
Cons--look below. That's the same one being sold on ebay. One thing is clear, they need to take better pictures. But still, if that's how it looks new out of package, then it's not pretty and the wrinkles will matter. I'm also nervous the pintucks will fall apart with kids playing on the bed. Cost more.

don't buy the west elm one. I had that one in blue and the pin-tucks kept popping apart every time my daughter hopped up on the bed to read books. I took it back after a year and they did give me store credit....but not worth it.
one more thing: have you looked at thecompanystore.com?
They have some simple classic duvets that might fulfill your wishes.
I almost bought the West Elm one a couple of years ago, but I ended up going with a $30 cheapie that I found on Amazon. I LOVE it! I bought it almost 2 years ago and it has held up so well. It's plain white, but it has a discreet border (nothing obnoxious). Very classy-looking and it always looks ironed, which is great because I've never once ironed it. I LOVE it!
okay, so apparently the price has gone up in the last couple of years, but this is the one I have http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E0OTOS
The only caveat is that the material isn't super thick, so if you have a colored duvet inside it won't look as white. But I have a navy blue duvet and it hasn't bothered me that much, and I'm pretty picky.
If you have ever stayed in a Westin, they are famous for their Heavenly Beds, and they are heavenly trust me! My aunt and uncle bought their bedding and it is great. I'm not sure that it is the cheapest option, but I would totally find it worth the investment.

If you like the West Elm one there is one that is very similar at Target and it's on sale right now! http://www.target.com/Home-Kissing-Pleat-Duvet-Set/dp/B004HG16F6/ref=sc_ri_2?ie=UTF8&node=13357781
We just bought a white duvet cover from Macy's Hotel collection. It does have subtle stripes, but you don't notice them unless you are up close. I like stripes anyway though :-) We like it because it's really light, and doesn't make the cover feel any heavier.

It's also on sale right now.
Of the two you showed, I like the first one. The kids can't mess it up, and it will never need ironing!
Afton Ikea has a few you can look at.
we have an IKEA cheapo and it looks like it's cheap. it's too short and the stitching has come apart. but that's what you get for $19.99 i guess. it's just a lightweight white cotton one, but i also bought one from crate & barrel (or CB2, can't remember) awhile ago that is really nice and heavy. we use that in the winter. chocolate brown on one side, white on the other. it was on sale, but still a bit spendy. you could check out their websites!
i haven't been able to find one i like, either! i'm ready to bust out the sewing machine--care to join me?
Duvet covers are super easy to make. Find a pair of white flat sheets that you like. Sew them them together, put buttons on the top and slip your duvet inside. That way you can decide how heavy you want the fabric, and there are more options in white flat sheets than duvets.
If you want the pin tuck one, when you get it go through and hand sew the pin tucks. Then steam it. I like the texture of the pin tucks.
I find that duvet covers really don't wrinkle that much, even with use. the fluffiness of the batting makes it harder to create the folds that create wrinkles.
You guys are all just so dang useful! After reading your comments I told Josh, "And that's why I have a blog." Thanks for the links and sewing ideas. We'd actually bought an ikea one and it ended up looking dull and cheap so I returned it. The target ones don't have the dimensions on the website, but I'm skeptical they'd be as long on the sides as I'm hoping. I think I'll go with one from The Company Store because they have the biggest size and cheapest at those dimensions. Rach, I'm tempted to buy yours but it's shorter than the Com.Store one, do you find that it's a bit short? Cause I'd love to get one that's already been tried and tested! Thanks again everyone!
Better late than never? They have one at Pottery Barn you might check out: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/ruched-voile-duvet-cover-sham-white/?catalogId=58&bnrid=3380801&cm_ven=Google%20Base&cm_cat=Shopping&cm_pla=Feed&cm_ite=Google%20Base-7196264
My duvet cover is from Pottery Barn, I've had it for almost 4 years and it looks good as new (if that's any indication, and of course I don't have kiddos :)
Thanks Vanessa! We haven't bought one yet, I love how it looks, Josh did too until he noticed the trim on it. "Is that lace on the edge??" Darn it! Arlynda and Kirsten, I've seriously considered making my own, but my too reservations are that 1. I won't be able to find sheets thick enough to feel like a sturdy bedspread and to not show the duvet underneath and 2. If I were to get really sturdy sheets, I think the cost would be close to the already made ones (on the cheaper end of course). And I'd have to sew it. That's 3, I can't sew without you Arlynda!
Vanessa, I just looked on PBarn and found a few other good options though! I love this one: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/hadley-ruched-duvet-cover-sham-white/?pkey=csolid-duvet-covers-shams
THanks for the idea!
Hey Afton! I'm glad it was somewhat helpful! I love my PB duvet. One other white duvet I noticed while browsing for myself this week (I'm actually in the market for a matress cover): http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=69300&catId=HOME-BEDDING&navCount=120&navAction=top&isProduct=true&pushId=HOME-BEDDING&popId=HOME-BEDDING&fromCategoryPage=true&color=010&templateType=hybrid&subCategoryId=HOME-BEDDING-DUVETS
You'll be able to find thick enough sheets (What's on your duvet anyway? I'm assuming it isn't just white). You are right, it may not save you money, but it opens up options for you.
I think you underestimate your sewing abilities. It's three straight seams, long, but straight, and some button holes. There are tons of tutorials for doing button holes on youtube. Really, they are easier than you think.
Would you like me to make a tutorial and post it on my sewing blog? I can, I need to make some duvet covers for the kids.
