Christmas Cards!

Josh and I have never gotten Christmas cards out. We've done email versions, which has seemed to be a feat in itself, but Josh was determined to finally get some out, and I always drag my feet because it always seems like a huge ordeal. Esp this year because it was close to Christmas, then we had City's bday, then we're having a baby...I can just go all day long with excuses--but the fact is, we love getting them, so why not try to send some too.

That and Josh told me I didn't have to do anything, he'd put the picture together, order it, write it and send it, I just needed to get him addresses. He did the picture stuff all himself and did a letter (which I had to then I had to add my two cents too--come on, if my name is on it, I have to have a say on it), and we both made several trips to the post office as more addresses came in. It ended up being a lot bigger of a deal than he expected too (and I had to bite my tongue from saying, "told you so, told you so!"), but we're glad we did it.

I got a few more addresses in over the holiday so I'm working on getting our last ones out, but since Josh and I were doing this as a team, some addresses may have slipped through the cracks, so I'm sorry if you haven't gotten one! We do have more if you really want and can let me know:).

We took cowboy pics when we lived in Texas, so I wanted some hippie pictures living near San Francisco.
This was our first load, plus some extra cards for grandma's. It was so SO satisfying to send these off! I had a few packages I was sending too and there wasn't a parking spot in the tiny parking lot so I just parked next to a car--with a ton of space next to it--and parked. This old lady who was just leaving in her car saw me, starts yelling at me through her rolled up window and making gestures of the "shame on you" kind.

I thought it was a bit hilarious and a bit crazy, so I just pretended to not see her. She finally moved on, and then stopped at the exit of the lot, rolls down her window and starts yelling at me again, and I just smiled at my kids through my rolled up window, pretended to putter for a minute until she moved on. She slowly started rolling away and I got out, with my 8 months pregnant belly, carrying this box of cards, a few packages, and my two kids, and she didn't stop for another comment. And if she did, I would have just smiled and said, "Merry Christmas!" I think that would have been perfect:).

Some stragglers, back to the post office--the lady knew me by this point. And no more cranky lady to shout at me. I went back again the next day for another package and I have started to really like the people who work there, it's a small P.O. and the people seem to be less stressed and moody than the busy offices--who knew I'd enjoy going there?

PS--Josh just told me he was surprised I posted this and I told him that I was pretty sure that I at least tried to get in touch with 99% of the people that read this to send them a card. I also discovered in this process that I have loads of incorrect email addresses (I think 60+ came back as wrong), so if you haven't gotten one, and we've been face to face friends and not cyber friends, please let me know!

Q: Do you send them? Is it a big ordeal? I think that maybe once we figure out how to do this more efficiently it will be easier, but maybe not.

i saw your card at Todd + Marilyn's. it's adorable! great pictures! it isn't too bad of an ordeal - we've cut down on the # of cards to send - mainly just to family or friends who may not read our blog. we just put together a New Year's one yesterday. i think it's AWESOME that you can create something on Snapfish and pick it up at Walgreen's 3 hrs. later! they only have glossy prints, which i don't like, but oh well. i can't be picky when it's so late. ha!

sometimes it IS an ordeal, but it's always worth it. like you said, you always enjoy getting them, so think of those that you're sending them to! :)

I also did not get one... Geez, Afton! I did see it at someone's house, though... Debbi and Jake's? Very cute!

This was our first year too. We only sent them to our closest friends. That had to be people that either we both know, one of us is really close with, or we visit/home teach. There weren't that many and it saved on cost and hassle. Though it was really pretty simple, getting all the addresses was the hardest part. Oh, we also tried to get all the people that have sent one to us in the past. There are a few people I have added to the list for next year :-) We just put yours away (along with all the others) it was adorable!

got mine, too, and LOVE! we got yours and a few others on Christmas Eve, and we sat down together and opened and read them all. Maybe I'll make that a new tradition: save the Christmas cards and wait to open them all together. That is, if I can wait that long!

I always do Christmas cards, but I'm unwilling to spend much time--the whole process takes about 2 hours total because I cut corners. Like I don't send cards to people in my current ward because I see them all the time and I don't feel compelled to keep in touch. And I don't send cards to our aunts and uncle because we're kind of included in my mom's Christmas letter, so I figure that's good. Also, it takes a bit of work up front, but if you get all your addresses in Shutterfly, they will address, stamp, and send your cards. I haven't done it yet, but I'm tempted.

I love your pics, by the way. This year went didn't do any professional pics, and can you believe I went the whole year without taking a single picture of all of us together! I had to do a collage of various photos to get us all in.
