Two nights ago something "exciting" happened. Since our night at the hotel for our mini vaca, Hazel has been sleep walking consistently every night. We're used to her bad dreams and cries during the night and even the occasional sleep walking, it's just been a lot this week. She usually just starts screaming out and Josh runs in and finds her totally disoriented and partially asleep. Two nights ago she started screaming and Josh found her in the corner of her room very concerned about City, she couldn't find her and needed to see her. We calmed her down a little, but she was so out of it it was hard to console her.
Then we noticed she was bleeding from her lip so we went to the bathroom and discovered she'd banged her tooth, chipping the corner off and pushed it backwards a little--real pleasant way to wake up from an already bad dream huh?Since she sucks her thumb when she sleeps, her teeth are normally pushed forward a little. I thought that maybe it would be a good thing to let her suck her thumb the next few days (instead of my first thought to pull it out to not disturb it) to maybe push it back forward--and it seems to have worked!
Around the tooth it was also bleeding in front and back. She was in a lot of pain and kept grinding her teeth because they hurt (ouch huh?), it was hard to watch. I still figured she'd be fine though and gave her some tylenol, but I could tell Josh was almost in as much pain as Hazel over Hazel and very anxious and concerned about the whole thing. It was really sweet to see this side! He immediately called our brother in law who's a really good dentist to make sure we didn't need to take her to the hospital or anything (which I thought was really cute). He said to just watch it to see if the tooth gets dark over the next few days because that means that the blood flow was cut off when it got pushed back and would need to be pulled. Now that's it's been a few days, I can put my sad visions of our toothless little girl for the next two years away.
Just to show you how cute Josh was, Stan (the dentist) suggested IB Profin, which we were out of, so Josh ran over to Safeway anyway to get her some at 10pm. She's been telling a lot of people about it since and how she needs to eat soft foods. Here is a shot of her cute new rounded off from teeth. (The other one was already chipped from a little dancing disaster I had with her a couple of years ago, I swung her around and apparently didn't see something in the way--which I think was the fridge...and chipped it off. She still loves dancing though, phew.)
