Good Book for Beach?

I have a lot of friends who read, read, read. I would like to be more like that but just can't seem to carve out the time for it (although that doesn't mean that I spend my time wisely).

I'm on the hunt for a few great beach reads, i.e., something positive, preferably romantic, and happy ending. You know how when you're into a book that's what you think about all day long--or is that just me? Anyway, seeing as we'll be on vacation, I'd like to have my mind filled with happy thoughts and smiles on the beach.

A few that I'm considering:

The History of Love
Austenland
The Goose Girl

Guess that's only two. I'd probably prefer something placed in more current times or even about someone on vacation just to really hit the mood.

Q: Any suggestions?

I thought Austenland was fun, as long as you're in a flippant mood and not expecting anything too deep. The Goose Girl was not my favorite Shannon Hale.

If you're in the mood for a nice fat book, try The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher (or Coming Home or September). They're all set in Cornwall or Scotland and are some of the most wanderlust-ing books I've ever read. Plus, Pilcher once described her books as "escapist literature for intelligent/educated women," which characterization I totally agree with!

LOVED Austenland - it should be a movie. You'll laugh out loud!

A Guide to the Birds of East Africa by Nicholas Drayson is a fun, quick read, romantic and silly. Also loved Sophie Kinsella's Twenties Girl, but it's much longer. Another fun romantic read...funny how I'm usually not into these kinds of books, but have read a few lately and actually enjoyed them.

If you want a book or two you CAN'T put down, read The Hunger Games & Catching Fire...but you may not see the beach at all because they're such pageturners, so that's prob. not a good recommendation. :)

I liked the Wednesday Sisters and the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

I love Shannon Hale. Any of her stuff is worth a good, clean read. . . and not so page-turning that you can't put it down. And, they have her stuff at the library!

I'm agreeing about Shannon Hale. I thoroughly enjoyed The Goose Girl and think it would be a fantastic beach book. The second book in the sequel would be fun too.

Afton! Read Goose Girl, it's great. :o) I've known Shannon since I was born, and she's also great. AND you are great, so that's a good recipe for a fabulous beach read.
You guys are so cute, it's fun to hear about what you are doing!

Austenland was good, for a very juvenile mood. It didn't have much to it and it was done before I had time to really digest anything.

I love the Who Goes There? series by Susan Evans McCloud, but they are mystery books. I call them romantic mystery. And they take place in Scotland in the 20's. I highly recommend them! :)

I would go for The Goose Girl or The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. The Goose girl is more fantasy...the Literary Society was the New Yorks Times best seller...and is very well written. Both great for a vacation. Enjoy!:)
