I have decided to put my love rug on hold and try a different approach.
#1. I think this is a pretty good quality one, I like the look, like the little lines (hiding more dirt and crumbs:), but although cheaper than my flower favorite one, it's still twice as much as #2.
#2. We really like the retro look of this since we're trying to pull in some of that for this house. I like that it's supposed to be super soft since I plan to do a lot of laying and playing on it, but it looks a little dark and cheap, but I don't know that that makes it cheap, although from a materials standpoint, it isn't as good. But cheapest by far at half the cost of #1.

I'm with you, hands down #4... even compared with the last post, it's that cute. Maybe it would be worth going without a rug for a while so you can save up for it??! But I don't know how expensive it is, maybe it's not worth its price. But if it is, it would be a great staple and the delay might even open up that space for a little bicycle/ rollerblading in the house for a while?!
My experience (I have very little, mind you) is that it is always better to figure out how to get the piece that you really want because then you won't buy one that you don't like and then regret it for a few years until you just give in and buy the one you really wanted. For me it's cheaper to save up and buy what I really love the first time, even if it's more expensive. Plus you should talk to the retailer because I think they are giving good deals for persistent people these days...
Good luck and thanks for sharing your options. Fun for people like me still in an apartment with mandatory white walls and church carpeting (I told you, very little experience) to imagine decisions like that! :)
Wow, these are all great designs! I like them all more than your last rug post because blue and orange look fabulous as complemetary colors. #1 is VERY cool. Love the retro design of #2 and even #3 looks retro as well. I think #4 is my fave too, but if you're like me, I always want to change things every couple years, so I'm not sure (depending on how spendy it is) if it would be worth it to you to buy the one you really like.
Blue + Orange = Brown. Use a rug that has the same shade brown as your blue and orange mixed would make if they were to be mixed. If it's light, then so be it. That way, everything will tie together to make a nice, cohesive space.
sigh.... i think you must have expensive taste like me. i like #1 and 4 the best. i say spend the money on something you like the best and you know will last.
#4 for sure. Love it.
I love and hate these kinds of decisions. It takes me forever to decide. I agree with what Tristen said about waiting until you can get what you want. I have thrown away so much money on cheap, "will do for now stuff". I also change the colors in my house often enough that a rug that works with many different seasons and decors is appealing. Out of the 4 you posted I like #3 and #4. I like the look/design of #4 the best but I like the colors in #3. I had black, white, and orange in my kitchen once. I loved the color combination but the black really started to bother me. Blue and green are happier, more calming colors which are good for a family room. Good luck! Have fun!
Love #4--that's my vote for sure. #3 would be my next choice--when you say you're worried about dirt, do you already have a no-shoes policy in the house? That might take care of some of it...I always figure it's easier to clean a rug than carpet, and most of the houses I've been in seem to have light beige carpet!
oh--and like other people have said, I think it's worth it to buy one that you really love, rather than one that works. Granted, if it's $10,000, that's probably not worth it. But otherwise, you may just be happiest waiting a bit to get the one that makes you smile every time you see it!
Ok, so I agree with the many other comments that have said that you should spend the extra money to have something you really love. Especially when it comes to more permanent things like rugs, I am willing to spend more to get exactly what I want because I know I will be happy with it for much longer. When I skimp and go the cheaper route on something important like this, I inevitably regret it...
It's so funny that you are on such a rug kick right now because I am also. I am currently hunting for the perfect rug for our nursery. I have come to a few conclusions:
1. You can find great rugs on craiglist if you don't mind the "used" aspect. Also ebay is great for rugs if you know what you are looking for.
2. Name brands like Pottery Barn and Macy's are always great if you ever plan to re-sell someday.
3. You can make almost any rug feel really thick and expensive with a good quality rug pad underneath.
Also, have you tried TJ Maxx Home Goods store? I was just there the other day and they have some modern rug designs that fit right in to some of the styles you are looking for.
Happy rug hunting!

I absolutely love #4, but I also really like #2. It does have that retro-feel, which I like, but I really like the dark chocolate with that blue. It is a nice color combination.
Of this post....Sadly I'd say #4, but I'm still rooting for your "love-rug.!" BTW...Where did you find the love rug?
Being financially practical, I like the light one. Most rugs have really, really good stain guarding, and it's more of a medium tone to me (or my monitor anyway) than a light, so I think you'd be ok...
love #4 of course...but all of them are great. really...with the orange wall? DREAMY.
the top of utah marathon was fabulous. first 14ish were a slight downhill...i made sure i really paced myself so i would have energy when it started flattening out for the last 12. do it! it's a qualifying race for boston...and it's not a lottery!
you look amazing. we need to do a race next fall together i think! you'd be way to fast for me, but maybe we could run the first mile together:)
