The weather was perfect outside, breezy, warm, just heavenly. We had the windows and back door open where the kids ran in and out in between bites of dessert. They colored our backyard with chalk and the adults enjoyed some adult time just inside eating cake, cookies, chocolate fudgy pie and lemon bars.
What's better than a beautiful evening, happy children playing, friends and good conversation, and dessert? It made me thankful for all of the friends we've made over the years and I wish that we had enough perfect evenings to have everyone over for treats!

Josh loves the Vanilla on Vanilla cake (or cupcake as they're better known for) recipe from Magnolia Bakery in NYC. I also love their coconut cake which is divine. You should really try them both. The shop is wonderful too, I just loved going and we lived way too close to it when we lived there. It was like a 10-15 min walk (which just isn't enough to walk off this dessert!). The line for this place was always wrapped around the block when we'd go, day or night.
Okay, sorry, that was a big Magnolia tangent. We also had lemon bars and chocolate fudgy pie and cookies. It was really yummy and I've suffered today from being stuck in the house with them.
Q: What is your favorite dessert to Eat? I'm looking for ideas of what to make that is a really nice dessert, something fun and not what you'd whip up if you just had a hankering for something sweet.
Q: What dessert do you most like to Make?
Q: Do you ever do dessert nights and do you do anything special for them?

I am not responding to your questions, but Magnolia bakery - i love this place as well! The vanilla on vanilla cake is my favorite as well - everytime we go to nyc we go to magnolia - we heard there were a few other cupcake places we needed to try - but we never seem to make our way over there ;) I was just there last weekend actually! Oh and if you get a chance to try the banana pudding - the girls i go with love it - they say it is the best thing next to heaven!
Afton - it was a perfect way to spend an evening! We had such a nice time, thank you for inviting us.
Check out my cousins food blog at cafejohnsonia.blogspot.com, she has incredible ideas for very special desserts.
I love love love to make the coconut cake from Magnolia. You made me so homesick for our NYC days, Afton! We miss you guys.
I really like that Hershey's Fudge Cake we made for you guys once. It's not hard, but I never seem to make it unless someone is coming over.
We try to invite people over for dinner fairly often, but it's getting more tricky now that we have 3 kids (before they bring theirs over). We're thinking it'd be better to do a dessert night instead. Less stress.
I saw this fun idea of having a trifle bar in my Taste of Home mag. Have the dessert bowls or whatever you want to put the treat in and then lots of fruit, pudding, cut up pieces of cake or brownie, or whatever you want and people can make their own treat. I thought that sounded like lots of fun. :)
