Veteran's Day--Send a Soldier a Note

Don't forget that today isn't just the day your mail doesn't come, but it's also Veteran's Day. Six years ago I sent a veteran I knew, only as an acquaintance really, a letter of thanks on Veteran's Day for his service to our country. I was surprised by his response--or that he even sent one. He was an older gentleman and he wrote me a lengthy letter back giving some details of his service and even sent photocopies of some pictures and of his reunion he'd had with his buddies from war.

I was so moved by it that I decided I should keep up the letter thing every year. Well, I haven't, and I wish I've been better. In our busy lives it's hard to do things like that as much since getting out a birthday card to my grandma is hard! Here's a great website to send a soldier a post card for FREE! Just do a couple of clicks, you can even click on a scripted message (please only if you don't have that extra minute to type in a real message though). Send your thanks today to those fighting for freedom and safety.

Here are three of my favorite post cards you can send from their site.

Great Idea! I had all the kids at my museum write letters or color pictures today that are being sent to a friend's platoon deployed in Iraq. I used the postcard site to send one of my own to someone I've never met (and then forwarded the site to everyone I work with)! Your kindness and forethought has always touched me.
