GREAT GREAT GREAT NEWS! I found out it's all a matter of who you're talking to at the passport office. The lady last week told me to bring in all sorts of things, year books, papers, anything to prove I have always gone by Marilu, not Mary. I was also supposed to bring in a marriage license, not certificate (my temple one is the only one we have and it's not official apparently). Well, after stressing my mom out to dig up docs and scan and email them to me, the lady didn't even seem to notice my name change and sent it right through!!! Can you BELIEVE it? Ugh.
I was so annoyed at the previous lady but also so grateful that it was easy this time since it seemed questionable that it would work. I actually asked her about my name and if she wanted to see everything I brought and she was like, "Oh, sure, Marilu is just a form of Mary so..." She just didn't think it was a big deal like the other one, nice. She took the things my mom sent just to give to the people who will actually print it, but only because I offered them. It is kind of fun to have a copy of my baptismal program and report card though, I'm keeping those.
Don't you love my stylin do and face? Guess you can't really see it with this size, maybe that's best.

Q: Don't you miss the old report cards where they added comments on it?
Q: Aren't you THRILLED that my name situation is mostly figured out and I get to go to Peru this week!! That was just more of a statement really, I'm just so excited:).

I miss the old report cards that mattered more than a standardized test. But, that is another debate entirely.
I'm glad you got your passport problem worked out and that you will be able to go to Peru. Have fun!
YES I miss the report cards with comments but I don't miss school! I'm SO glad you have this worked out! Maybe I should have a name identity crisis so Mom can find cool goodies like this for me. I've never seen my baptism program. Just what Mom would love to do right now I'm sure. WHAT a day on Saturday. Dang!
Ummm... no, I hated the comments because I knew that the teacher was just using a template "Alicia is a wonderful student who offers a lot in class". Funny, all 6 of my teachers though the *exact* same thing! =)
And I am beyond thrilled that your passport worked out!! You are official!
And by the way - I had a very similar situation in nyc when I changed my name to my married name due to a middle name I gave myself when I was 3 years old that I mistakenly thought was my real middle name until I was 14 or so... Really, we were just meant to be friends. =)
Have so much fun! Don't hesitate to call me if you need ANYTHING!
hooray!! sounds like my experience at the ever treasured dmv. i swear they hire the most onery people possible to work at government places!
when i was student teaching in vegas, we did all the report cards on the computer, but still had to add comments. i think the handwriting is what i miss, because it reminds me of the personality of the teacher. (but i so would have been docked points for not writing in perfect cursive!)
I love reading the different comments because it's reflective of each of your personalities, so fun!
Arlynda, you're so informed and opinionated in a good, sound way--you've got to be involved in school districts or local gov't where you can make a difference!
Autumn, yeah, it was kind of nice to have something come up for mom to start digging around in my old stuff because she really doesn't have time for stuff like that. I think it should be her new job though, I'd love to get my hands on all that stuff and pictures!
Alicia, we were meant to be friends. As I read Snow Flower and The Secret Fan, I thought about you! I think it's awesome that you thought your name was something else. Apparently so did my dad. When I called to ask him if they officially changed my name, he had no idea what I was talking about, he didn't know Mary was ever on my birth certificate even though he is the one who changed the spelling so many times in my journal.
Kat, thanks for your offer to help, you are wonderful! That really was so nice of you, I came home and told Josh all about how great you are, thanks.
Kirsten, I see the teacher and thouhtfulness in you through this, you would actually remember your teacher's handwriting? I can barely remember most of their names (sorry teachers...I have a bad memory). Did you end up doing home school with you kids? How are things going there?
