Spoiled or Frugal? Funny Josh

Josh is nervous about this blog as I've become so of late since I'm not quite as accurate in expressing my feelings as I should be, but I had to write about something funny that happened the other day.
He was booking his hotel for his business trip online and he gets this mixture of emotions on his face of fluster, shock and nervousness on his face and goes, "The Four Seasons is totally booked! What am I going to do???" I died laughing and started up in the beginning of my mocking session and he quickly started laughing at how ridiculous he sounded. In his defense, one of the very few reasons Josh actually enjoys travelling is because of the fancy hotels he gets to stay in and he's been planning on staying at this one for about a month now and has been really excited about it.

I thought, has he really become so spoiled that he doesn't know where he'll stay since the $400 a night special is all booked? But later that night, this episode of comedy temporarily forgotten, this conversation takes place:

"So I left my turkey sandwich out last night."

"Oh bummer, did you bring your wallet?" (or something to that effect, he'd forgotten it earlier this week.)

"No, I just ate it."

"You WHAT? That was out all night and you didn't eat it until the next day at lunch??? Are you CRAZY? WHY?" (He's been known to do this sort of thing before and has even been lucky enough to suffer severly for it, but it hasn't taught him well enough.)

"Because, I didn't want to waste it and it costs so much to buy lunch..."

This little conversation reminded me that although my husband might be spoiled through work, as soon as it comes down to real life, he's totally cheap. We used to think frugal, but we realized now that we're just cheap, and this story demonstrates that. He's been known to bring a bell pepper and two slices of fiber bread with him for lunch because he's in a hurry because the thought of wasting money on lunch is too much for him.

And no, the turkey didn't ruin him, it served him mercy with a little justice, not full blown, just enough to make him promise me he wouldn't ever do that again.
Q: I'll bet you didn't know how entertaining he was!
Q: Ever done this?

Sounds like my husband, who will forget to eat lunch because he's so busy, so it will stay in his backpack all day, then he'll eat it the next day. Guys.

Billy told me this morning that if Josh can eat a sandwich left out all night, he could take the chili leftovers for lunch, even though they'll just sit in his backpack for 6 hours before he eats it! :)

Afton I have to comment on the other post but have to wait until I have more time! :) That is SO funny about Josh. I can't wait to tease him about that. I can't handle left-out overnight food. Jake can. Of course. So what DID he do hotel wise? :)

He ended up being able to get the 4Seasons for two nights, just not the third, oh good. :) It's a really sweet hotel though, I stayed there once with him, it was awesome. They have free smores on the weekends by the river on this little walking path they have, it's so cool.

Joe it totally cheap when it comes to buying lunch also. He has forgotten his lunch before and instead of buying a little something he just won't eat until dinner. Talk about cheap. If it was me I would say "It's a great excuse to eat out!"
As far as eating old things, Joe is totally bad. We have found old to go boxes that were a week old and instead of throwing them out Joe will say "It's fine to eat." He's eating it while I'm gagging. It's amazing what their stomachs can handle.

I am the same way, business travel wise...... my standard of hotels has pretty much ruined personal travel for me. Luckily I have some many Hilton points that I can STILL stay at nice hotels for personal travel! But the days of staying a night at a $40 hotel are long gone... I just couldn't do it, now.

Its funny how spoiled you get, so fast!!!! My fellow CRA friends and I talk about that all the time.

Ewww, yucky. I'm glad you told Josh to stop doing that. Hehe, it must be the way we were raised or something, because sometimes I'll eat expired things in the fridge so that they don't go to waste, and Mark thinks it's disgusting. I don't eat things left out all night, though. That's nasy. :) Hey Afton, have you checked out my blog? Did you get the invite?

This needs a little clarification. The quote about the hotel was accurate, but I was concerned because that hotel shares a parking lot with our Austin offices, where I was planning to work during the week, and I did not have a car. In addition, the partner I was traveling with had already booked the hotel, and being in different hotels would have complicated logistics. Finally, our firm has a great rate at the Four Seasons, so I have never stayed anywhere else in Austin, and I was honestly unfamiliar with any other hotels in the area. I admit, however, to being (or at least sounding) a little ridiculous. . . And Afton is right, I do enjoy perks when they're available!
